Collateral consequences are legal and regulatory restrictions that limit or prohibit people with records. These barriers affect access to employment, business, occupational licensing, housing, voting, education, and other rights, benefits, and opportunities.

It is estimated that the justice-impacted community experiences over 48,000 collateral consequences upon re-entry.

Vision

Everyday we work towards the liberation of justice-impacted communities and we see a future where we can heal from injustice and build generational wealth.

Mission

National Expungement Works (N.E.W.), is a shift to emancipate justice-impacted communities which have been exploited by systemic inequities and injustices. We believe that whatever is allowed to be expunged, sealed, reclassified, set aside in your state, you should be able to show up and address that. We build and restore pathways for generational healing and wealth through our holistic year-round programming which offers legal relief*, wraparound services, and advocacy for the expanded access to expungement.

*National Expungement Works (N.E.W.) provides legal relief through record expungement, record sealing, record clearing and/or any other form of record relief that is allowed per local legislation.

Values

  • Healing: We declare that healing is required to transcend generational trauma caused by systemic injustice. We honor our ancestors and uphold their legacy by dismantling barriers to access through legal relief and offering holistic wellness education and activities to our community and ourselves.

  • Solidarity: We declare that we will operate in defense of all communities impacted by systemic injustice and recognize the collective power needed to address it. We are one with aligning communities, organizations, institutions, and industries that share our values.

  • Create: We declare that we are the architects of our survival. We believe in the power of manifestation, activation, and transformation with intention, to construct new realities through advocacy, programming, and storytelling.

  • Ascension: We declare ourselves guardians of the flame igniting pathways to generational health and wealth through education, professional development, communal resources, legal relief, and collaboration.

  • Dedication: We declare that our work is essential now as it prioritizes the requirements of our communities. We work to ensure that our partner alignment is reflective of those we uplift and support.

  • Legacy: We declare ourselves a living testament to the truth of injustice in our communities. We amplify stories of justice-impacted individuals, including our own, to reclaim our legacy through healing, repair, and growth.

  • Fellowship: We declare that joy is resistance. We work to convene our communities in love and joy while recognizing our collective accountability to change-making.
